The contract lays a foundation for machine learning and automation within the IRS’s business operations.

The Internal Revenue Service announced a new contract focused on implementing machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies into their data analytics operations.

Awarded a Blanket Purchase Agreement spanning one base year, Brillient Corporation will instill more automation technology into the IRS’s systems. The technology, called Robotic Process Automation, will incorporate scalable automated technology into the agency’s information management operations.

“This BPA expands Brillient's successful information management and digitalization services to the IRS into the closely related areas of RPA and intelligent automation. This powerful combination of technology and improved processes will deliver great value to the IRS in efficiency and enhanced taxpayer service,” said Ed Burrows, the vice president of Intelligent Automation at Brillent.

The IRS is one of the many government agencies looking to modernize their legacy systems and incorporate more advanced technologies into the office.

President Joe Biden’s 2023 Budget allocates $310 million for IRS systems modernization, a 39% increase above the 2021 enacted level. The aim for this funding is to improve the digital services offerings the IRS provides to civilian users.

The contract with Brillient will support the IRS as it upgrades its document processes and improve automated delivery supported by machine learning. The contract is worth up to $70 million.
