Experience the strange environment of a space station without ever leaving the ground.

Want to know what living on the International Space Station is like? You can experience the closest thing to it here on Earth at Houston's Johnson Space Center, where they have a life-size replica of the ISS to train astronauts.

While there's more gravity and you can leave and step outside any time you like, the ISS training facility simulates the cramped quarters and some of the advanced technology aboard the craft.

Before these lengthy missions, which can now last as long as a full year, astronauts train for everything from day-to-day living to emergency procedures.

"We have real [capsule communicators] to answer questions," said Lucia McCullough, deputy chief of the facility. "So, we practice the coordination between the crew and the ground many times before they ever fly."
