A Nevada law that took effect this month requires all businesses there to encrypt personally-identifiable data or face unlimited civil penalties, which is boosting sales of laptop computers with encrypted hard drives and for encryption software, the Journal reports.

Massachusetts will enact a similar law in January, and Michigan and Washington state are considering similar mandates, the article states.
