Hartman most recently served as acting head of cyber at the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Agency. He now joins Merlin to grow its partnerships with technology companies and government agencies.

The Merlin Group has added more cybersecurity expertise in its hiring of Matt Hartman as the company's new chief strategy officer.

Hartman most recently was acting head of cyber at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, which is part of the Homeland Security Department.

He brings “unparalleled expertise and a proven track record of driving innovation to safeguard the United States’ most critical digital assets,” the company said in its release Monday.

Hartman's two-decade career in cyber includes work on shaping national policies at CISA and working to strengthen collaboration between the federal government and the private sector.

At Merlin, he will use that experience to help the company amplify its impact and increase its role as a partner to technology companies and government agencies.

"His leadership at CISA and his ability to navigate the needs of both government and industry align seamlessly with our mission,” said Merlin's founder and CEO David Phelps. “Matt's insight will accelerate the vision I started more than 30 years ago: delivering practical, game-changing solutions to protect our nation's critical systems."
