Amid allegations of corruption, HUD CIO Johnson Joy has resigned.

The Housing and Urban Development Department’s Chief Information Officer Johnson Joy resigned today.

A HUD spokesperson said Chad Cowan, chief of staff for Deputy Secretary Pam Patenaude, will begin serving immediately as the agency’s acting CIO. Cowan’s CIO duties will be “temporary” as the agency looks to find a new tech chief.

The Guardian first reported Joy’s departure, linking it to allegations of corruption that previously resulted in the resignation of one of Joy’s senior advisors, Naved Jafry. A HUD spokesperson said the agency would not comment on personnel issues beyond confirming Joy’s resignation.

Joy’s resignation adds to the federal government’s woes in filling permanent CIO and leading cybersecurity positions.
