The Department of Commerce’s CHIPS.gov will provide available resources and information as it begins to implement the new program.

A new government website—CHIPS.gov—will be an online resource for the program established by the passage of the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act.

The bill became law earlier this month and aims to strengthen the domestic manufacturing of semiconductors and not rely as heavily on overseas production of the tech component, which is found in products ranging from fighter jets to smartphones, but also used as a building block of emerging technology.

The website, which launched today, will provide information related to the implementation of the Department of Commerce’s CHIPS and Science Act initiatives, the department’s priorities, opportunities for funding, timelines and requirements, among other information.

“The Commerce Department has been preparing for months for the passage of the CHIPS and Science Act, and we are excited to get to work implementing this historic set of investments in America’s innovation, R&D and semiconductor manufacturing,” Commerce Secretary Gina M. Raimondo said. “We are committed to a process that is transparent and fair, and CHIPS.gov will be an essential channel through which we communicate with the public about CHIPS program initiatives. We will move as swiftly as possible to deploy these funds, while also ensuring the time needed to perform due diligence. This program is intended to be an investment in America’s long-term economic and national security, and we will take the necessary steps to ensure its success.”

The website furthers the Biden administration’s commitment to increase semiconductor production, improve research and design, and develop a robust semiconductor workforce. The program seeks to restore American leadership in semiconductor production

The administration has issued several priorities for the program, namely supporting economic and national security interests, establishing long-term leadership in the area, bolstering regional clusters to be more competitive, taking advantage of private sector investment, creating a broad range of benefits for stakeholders and protecting taxpayer funding.
