Indiana Lays Out Money for Richmond High-Tech Market

Indiana Gov. Frank O'Bannon (D) last week allocated $153,000 from the state's Strategic Development Fund to help bring highpaying, hightechnology jobs to the city of Richmond's telecommunications and technology zone.

"By creating this technology zone, Richmond is putting out the welcome mat to high-tech jobs and working aggressively to get more of them," O'Bannon said in a release.

The city also has received $181,000 from the Main Street Richmond/Wayne County Technology Initiative Program.

Richmond plans to use the money to study how to make the community more desirable to high-tech companies. Possible initiatives include improving the city's infrastructure, marketing the community's image at trade shows and through multimedia advertising, and establishing a comprehensive training program to attract jobs and retain skilled workers for the technology industry.
