Video: Innovation in Data-driven Government

Bob Runge, who sits on the board of directors at Socrata, believes governments with data are on the verge of an enormous change. Runge compares the use of open data to the discovery of oil or electricity, where what comes next is unprecedented.

"Innovation is a relative term with respect to the outcome that you're seeking," he said. "In businesses, it refers to doing things better, faster, cheaper. In the government sense, innovation is going to be about building a better society."
