The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s chief information officer has been handed reassignment orders and is expected to soon transfer out of the DHS cyber agency, according to three people familiar with the matter.

Bob Costello, the chief information officer, has multiple offers on the table for his next job, though it’s not clear if those offers include opportunities to go to another government agency or leave for industry, the one of the three people said.

All sources spoke on the condition of anonymity to communicate details of the transfer.

Last month, CISA’s acting director Madhu Gottumukkala reportedly took steps to transfer Costello, but other political appointees blocked it.

Costello has been widely viewed as a well-liked and talented CIO in the agency, appearing at government and industry events. The motivations for the transfer orders are not clear.

Costello did not respond to a request for comment. Nextgov/FCW has also asked CISA for comment.

Cybersecurity Dive first reported the transfer and said Costello was offered reassignment to FEMA.
