Also in the News: Google chief wants easier access to government information
Eric Schmidt, Google's chief executive, wants better search engines for government data, the Washington Post reported.
Government information is difficult to find for most users of Web
search engines, but Obama adviser Eric Schmidt, Google's chief
executive officer, wants to change that, the Washington Post reported.
Making
government databases more visible to search engines would require
agencies to make each of them separate Web pages and then provide a
list of those sites’ Web addresses to the search engines. That’s
possible, but government information technology specialists say
significant resources and costs would be involved, while others say the
Google push is aimed primarily at making more money for the company,
the Post said.
