Letter: Agencies need to make older workers happy, too

A reader says young professionals aren’t the only ones driving changes in the government workforce.

Regarding “FOSE panelists: Government needs new approaches to hiring”: I fully agree that the government has to adapt to the workforce change. Not only is it younger professionals but professionals like myself who are over 50 years of age and are not satisfied with what has been offered.

I recently returned from overseas and had to take the first position offered under the Priority Placement Program. Unfortunately, my skills are being underutilized due to this program. Under this program, I am receiving retained pay, but do not see much upward mobility within my organization. I am continually asking for more challenging tasks in my position; however, I will end up moving to another organization to retain my pay status.
