Letter: Upper managers are blocking telework

A reader says Army employees have been waiting for a telework policy for far too long.

Regarding “House committee approves telework bill”: Hopefully, the "required" language will be unambiguous. In the Army, we've been waiting for a telework "policy" for far too long.

Understanding some of the challenges of telework, I think we've been crippled far too long by upper managers who just can't comprehend someone working without someone — them — watching the workers.

An old line supervisor summed up what most of the senior, foot-dragging managers must still be thinking: "But if we let them work from home, what's to prevent them from completing a 'day's work' in only four hours?"

As if that's not what's probably happening under their noses now!
