NIST director resigns

William Jeffrey, director for the National Institute of Standards and Technology, announced that he will be leaving his position after two years of service.He will become the director of the Science and Technology Division at the Institute for Defense Analysis.Under Jeffrey's tenure, the agency oversaw many information technology-related standards projects including Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12, secure desktop configuration standards and IP Version 6 implementation. The Federal Information Security Management Act also was updated during his tenure.Prior to joining NIST, Jeffrey worked in the Bush administration as senior director for homeland and national security and as assistant director for space and aeronautics in the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy. When he joined NIST, he replaced then-Acting Director Hratch Semerjian.No interim successor has been announced.
