IAC honors Hobbs

Ira Hobbs, who retired Jan. 3 as chief information officer of the Treasury Department, was feted that night at a hotel in downtown Washington, D.C. The American Council for Technology-Industry Advisory Panel hosted the event."You are a person who looks out for the little guy and at the same time, is a giant among his peers," said IAC chairman Bill Piatt, addressing Hobbs from the podium.Hobbs bid a fond farewell to the audience of industry leaders, pledging to remain active in the federal information technology arena. His priorities in retirement, however, are going to be reconnecting with his family, playing golf and finding ways to work on behalf of people with disabilities, he said."I don't know what I am going to do," he said. "I never thought this day would come for me."Citing Ecclesiastes, an Old Testament book of philosophical thoughts, Hobbs said there is a season for everything. "The worst thing you can do is not recognize that season," he said. "There is a time to move on and do something different."
