Meagher named Interior deputy CIO
He moves from the Department of Veterans Affairs to the Interior Department.
Ed Meagher, a longtime information technology executive at the Department of Veterans Affairs, is moving to the Interior Department, where he will be the deputy chief information officer.
Meagher, who was named chief technology officer at the VA in December 2005, said the move had been in development for several weeks. Previously, he was the deputy CIO at the VA.
“Sometimes it’s the right time to move," Meagher said in a telephone interview. “Make changes. Move on.”
Meagher’s last day at the VA will be Feb. 16, and he will start his new job Feb. 19.
“The list of things I will miss here are large. The mission is the best mission to have,” Meagher said. He was responsible for spearheading weekly dinners in Washington, D.C., for wounded soldiers returned from Iraq who were being treated at Walter Reed Medical Center. Meagher said he would continue organizing the Friday night dinners for the soldiers.
On Jan. 5, Interior named Bill Corrington as the acting deputy CIO while it searched for a permanent deputy.
Corrington has been on temporary detail from Interior's Bureau of Land Management, where he serves as deputy CIO.
