IRS offers corporate e-filing
It's the first time the agency has used XML to receive tax returns.
The Internal Revenue Service has given corporations and tax-exempt organizations a new option for submitting their returns to the Internal Revenue Service this season.
Using an updated e-filing service, tax filers can use the Web and a secure broadband connection to submit Form 1120 corporate income tax and Form 990 tax-exempt returns. Officials at tax agency announced the new service this week, touting it as one of the success stories of the tax systems modernization program.
Referring to the new filing option in a recent speech, Richard Skorny, IRS deputy associate chief information officer for program management, said the Form 1120 e-filing service could make a big difference in how some Fortune 500 companies file their bulky returns. Skorny said he remembers working for the IRS when some Fortune 500 companies "would show up with their returns in an 18-foot steel body truck
