Oregon's 21st Century Government training program
Oregon training session outline
Session 1: "Application Service Providers — The Basic Ingredients"
Explores the application service provider model that is transforming
private-sector information technology management and how it applies to state
government IT management in Oregon. It focuses on the three pieces of the
electronic and IT environment — networks, systems and applications.
Session 2: "Partnering With Your IT Professional"
Provides an overview of several methodologies for determining the value
of proposed technology investments.
Session 3: "IT Governance"
Looks into what can be done to overcome the notorious reputation IT
projects have for time delays, cost-overruns and controversial failures,
and inspects how to account for problems that compound this reputation
— such as the rapid change of technology — and leave insufficient time to
recover investments or saddle agencies with obsolete systems.
Session 4: "Convergence of Government and Technology: The Electronic
Government"
Aims to help executives develop an understanding of how the convergence
of government, business and technology is creating entirely new ways to
deliver services, accomplish missions and satisfy clients, constituents
and customers. It also presents the prevailing models and constituent parts
of e-government programs at the state, agency and division levels.
Session 5: "Business Process Management"
Provides executives with the basics of business process management
redesign to avoid the mistake of applying technology to existing, ineffective
business processes.
Session 6: "Information Technology and the Oregon Political Landscape"
Cultivates an understanding of how IT is organized in Oregon and presents
a discussion of issues facing organizations. Executives learn what is expected
of them and their organizations with regard to the application of IT to
business practices.
