MCI officials see the acquisition as a major step toward satisfying the growing demand from enterprise and government customers to manage a wider array of information technology functions.
Through the acquisition of San Francisco-based Totality, MCI is enabling the remote monitoring and management of applications no matter where they are hosted. The applications can be installed at MCI co-location centers or at customer locations.
"As more businesses and governments transition to IP, they are looking for higher-value services that help them better manage their IP infrastructure," said Jonathan Crane, MCI's executive vice president and chief strategy officer. "This acquisition enables MCI to provide more fully integrated solutions from the networking to the application layer with the performance and reliability customers have come to expect from MCI."
The acquisition is the latest one for MCI. In February, the company completed the acquisition of managed security firm NetSec. At the end of August, MCI launched an integrated portfolio of managed and professional security services through its NetSec Security Services group.
