App Makes Tracking Tax Refunds Easier

Wondering when or if you are going to get the tax refund you think the Internal Revenue Service owes you? There's an app for that.

On Monday, the IRS unveiled IRS2Go -- the first smartphone application that lets taxpayers track their refund and offers tips on tax planning and preparation. To check in, citizens can simply enter their Social Security number, select the filing status they used on their return and enter the amount of the refund they expect to receive.

E-filers can use the app as early as 72 hours after receiving an e-mail acknowledgment the IRS received their return. Paper filers must wait two to three weeks.

IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman said the app is a first step for the agency."We will look for additional ways to expand and refine our use of smartphones and other new technologies to help meet the needs of taxpayers," he said.
