*** Cybersecurity and analytics firm Splunk announced the acquisition of cloud monitoring software company SignalFx in a $1.05 billion deal in cash and stock. Splunk tools are widely used across government, in particular an application that extends the state-of-the-art dashboard style data and network monitoring to mainframe computing systems. The SignalFx acquisition is expected to support data monitoring in cloud-based container environments.

*** The National Security Agency is "probably late" in adopting the CIA's C2S cloud, but NSA Deputy CIO Mark Hakun said Aug. 20 at an intelligence community event that his agency is "looking at what we can do in that environment." NSA has been moving into the cloud via its own IC GovCloud, a custom system that combines commercial hardware with software developed inside the agency.
