ONC Takes Challenge to Heart

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT is looking for a mobile Web application that can make the ABCs of heart health as easy as 1-2-3.

ONC published a notice of the challenge competition in today's Federal Register. Specifically, ONC "encourages multidisciplinary teams to develop a user-friendly application (optimized for mobile Web access) that engages sufferers of cardiovascular disease in their own care."

The notice said the application should follow the Million Hearts' ABCs framework: Aspirin for people at high risk, Blood pressure control, Cholesterol management and Smoking cessation.

Using the application, patients will enter their age, body mass index, and cholesterol and blood-pressure readings. The application will combine that data with information from the American Heart Association and the Centers for Disease Control's Million Hearts websites, send the data to electronic health records, and provide information about the Million Hearts campaign.

Submissions are due by midnight Dec. 31.
