Heavy Hitters Seek VA Patient Wireless Deal

Some 57 companies have expressed interest in the Veterans Affairs Department's request for information for the patient and guest wireless Internet access program that I wrote about in November.

Though the majority of the companies who publicly indicated an interest in the deal are small businesses, it also attracted the attention of some big, name-brand companies including AT&T, Sprint and Motorola, as well as a key player in the federal marketplace, CDW-Government.

Based on questions submitted to VA, respondents to the RFI are considering both Wi-Fi and high speed cellular service, which is in line with the thinking of VA CIO Roger Baker when he talked to me about the project in June.
