Fixing drone data: A not-so-modest proposal

Last week, the Wall Street Journal revealed that insurgents had figured out how to use satellite dishes and $26 software to capture drone video feeds. And as we reported, the same security breach that allowed insurgents to pirate drone feeds could be exploited to tap into into the video transmissions of any warplane.

The Air Force now says that it is working on fixes to nonsecure links -- although current plans to encrypt the video feeds with a software modification will not be finished until 2014. Army systems will also have to be retrofitted.
