Agencies slow to adopt 'green IT'

Agencies are wasting money and energy by not buying, using and disposing of electronics equipment in environmentally smart ways, experts say. The government has two programs aimed at promoting green IT practices. One, called EPEAT, certifies for agencies which information technology products meet eco-friendly criteria. The other, called Federal Electronics Challenge, encourages agencies to use and dispose of IT equipment in eco-friendly ways. But most agencies don't employ these programs.
