When you're hit by a big data breach

In 2009 health care organizations, academic institutions and municipal governments have often shown up on the list of data breach victims published twice a week by Privacy Rights Clearinghouse. Last year's economic meltdown naturally upped the ante. The fundamental issue, after all, is confidence. At a time when the public already doesn't trust its corporate leaders, attacks on privacy widen the credibility gap and multiply the burden of accountability.
