Twitter to the rescue: Agencies apply high-tech tools in crisis response

When the Food and Drug Administration recalled salmonella-tainted pistachio products last week, about 3,000 people found out through the agency's Twitter feed, called FDARecalls. Thousands more found out about it because they are directly or indirectly connected to those people via Twitter's social network.
