FCW Insider: GSA schedules program in need of tweaks

FCW reporter and GSA watcher Matthew Weigelt files this brief:

The General Services Administration’s Multiple Award Schedules program needs an update to fit today’s world, the new acting Federal Acquisition Service commissioner Tyree Varnado said in an interview Thursday.

“The vehicle has been around a number of years and probably needs a little tweak,” Varnado said on Federal News Radio’s Daily Debrief, which is co-hosted by former FCW Insider Christopher Dorobek (who is now proprietor of DorobekInsider).

“We want to make sure that if there is something that we need to do, that we do it very strategically,” he said.

The MAS Advisory Panel is currently debating what to recommend to the GSA administrator as ways to update the $35 billion schedules program. The panel wants to turn in a report with its recommendations by as late as December.
