Crime laboratories across Pennsylvania received a boost last week when Gov. Tom Ridge announced the awarding of $1.8 million in grants for technology purchases.
Through the grants, awarded by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, the Allegheny County crime lab will receive $1 million of the federal Local Enforcement Block Grant funds, with the state police receiving the remaining $800,000 to upgrade its six crime laboratories.
Crime labs analyze forensic evidence, including DNA, fingerprints, hair and fiber samples for law enforcement agencies in all of Pennsylvania's 67 counties.
