Cynicism unfounded
I deeply appreciated Steven Kelman's sensible Op-Ed piece, "Public good not always second to politics" [FCW, July 12]. I too have found that people far too readily assume corrupt motives and payoffs where in fact people are working to do the best job they can.
Pervasive cynicism of this type is not at all realistic despite its pretensions of being so, and it prevents people from correctly evaluating or responding to real corruption or lack of concern and distinguishing it from ordinary proper conduct and ordinary mistakes or differences of opinion about proper courses of action.
I'm hoping for a day when a realistic respect about most people and their motives can replace the unwarranted cynicism that is common today.
