Federal Integrator's Top 25 8(a)s

This year's Federal Integrator 8(a) ranking shows that the hardware integration business has become a key thrust for many companies in this sector.

The top four 8(a)s are all active in the PC and/or workstation integration markets. Those companies are Pulsar Data Systems Inc., International Data Products Corp., Government Micro Resources Inc. and Sylvest Management Systems Corp. IDP entered the 8(a) program in 1994 and thus made the list for the first time. The company holds such deals as the Army's Portable-1 and the National Institutes of Health's Electronic Computer Store.

A number of 8(a) graduations changed the shape of this year's list considerably. Ten companies, including IDP, have landed on the list for the first time.

Federal Integrator's 8(a) ranking is based on both 8(a) and open-market prime contract activity during fiscal 1995.

Contract activity reflects information technology services and products. As for products, traditional indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contracts have been emphasized over the General Services Administration schedule sales. Schedule sales have been deleted where possible.

Eagle Eye Publishers provided the baseline numbers based on its analysis of GSA procurement data. These numbers were cross-checked, when possible, with company-supplied data to arrive at our list. Companies graduating before June 10, 1996, were not included on the list.
