ISIS Hacker Group Eyes Maryland News Outlet

Media // Maryland, United States

Extremist activists affiliated with ISIS, self-dubbed Cyber Caliphate, took control of the Twitter account and website of Delmarva’s WBOC 16. The group also hacked the Albuquerque Journal’s online presence.

Several confidential documents including driver's licenses, corrections records and addresses were leaked, as part of the campaign.

In a tweet posted under the WBOC 16 handle, Cyber Caliphate claimed to have hacked into FBI databases.

But the documents posted had no link to Maryland area residents, nor were they from the TV station's database.

The attacks became apparent the morning of Jan. 6, 2015.

"You'll see no mercy infidels. We are already here, we are in your PCs, in each house, in each office. With Allah's permission we began with New-Mexico and will come to every state, inshallah," Cyber Caliphate wrote on their Facebook page, which was taken down shortly after. "We won't stop… We know all your personal data: where you live, what you eat, your diseases, and even your health insurance cards."

The group replaced the journal’s Twitter profile with ISIS-themed art.
