Payment System at California Hotel Group Hacked

Hospitality // California, United States

San Diego-based Bartell Hotels is urging guests who patronized one of its five inns earlier this year “to review their payment card statements for signs of unusual activity,” according to a Sept. 8 breach notification.

The company had contained the infiltration by May 13, but only now has begun notifying the tens of thousands of potentially affected individuals.

Customer data that might have been accessed includes peoples’ names, payment card numbers and card expiration dates.

“Upon discovering a potential compromise, Bartell Hotels immediately began an investigation to confirm the nature of the unauthorized access to its system and to identify what information may have been exposed, and to quickly remediate the compromise,” company officials said in the notification.

Details on the method of entry were not disclosed.

The five hotels involved are: Best Western Plus Island Palms Hotel & Marina; The Dana on Mission Bay; Humphreys Half Moon Inn & Suites; Pacific Terrace Hotel; and the Days Hotel – Hotel Circle.
