Pentagon's Asia-Pacific Focus is Verizon's Jackpot

I'm hearing that Verizon will emerge as a big winner in the Defense Department new strategy released last week with its focus on the Asia-Pacific region.

Managing forces in the region, which encompasses about half of Earth's surface -- stretching from the waters off the West Coast of the United States to the western border of India, and from Antarctica to the North Pole -- requires robust communications, and Verizon has the premier contract vehicle to provide them.

In 2009, the company won the Defense Information Systems Agency's contract to serve the region through 2019. The Defense Information System Network Transmission Services - Pacific II contract was valued at $2.5 billion.

I have a hunch it could eventually be worth much more.
