Prouty named acting GSA administrator

Obama administration names Public Building Service official to temporarily lead the procurement agency.

Paul Prouty, assistant regional administrator for the General Services Administration’s Public Buildings Service in the Rocky Mountain Region, was named the agency’s new acting administrator on Jan. 20, several GSA sources said today.

GSA officials referred questions about the announcement to the White House.

Jim Williams had been the acting administrator since August, after the Senate didn’t confirm his nomination to lead the procurement agency. Williams had been commissioner for the Federal Acquisition Service prior to becoming the acting administrator. GSA officials would not confirm whether Williams had moved back to the commissioner position.

Prouty joined GSA in 1971, beginning his career in the real estate intern program and in 1988 become director of the real estate division in the Rocky Mountain Region. In 1995, Prouty became the assistant regional administrator for the Public Buildings Service in the New England Region. He returned to the Rocky Mountain Region as the assistant regional administrator in 1997, according to GSA’s Web site.
