Letter: CIO search on for hundreds of days and counting

Regarding "OPM seeks to streamline hiring."

When the time it takes for an applicant for a federal chief information officer job opening to be contacted for the "first" time after applying has been running at about 240 days after the application was submitted (online!) historically, it begs the questions:

1. When does the clock start on the lofty 80-day goal begin?
2. What innovations in the process and automated systems are being provided to achieve the 80-day target consistently?

Our national security and global leadership depend on these answers.

I suspect that if anyone from the private sector examined the process and systems used in the federal system to recruit talent, a cardiac event might be triggered (i.e., Step 1: Print out the application submitted online and have a three — sequential/progressively more competent — committees review applications using paper copies. Green IT anyone?)
