Letter: One background check should be enough for fed fliers

A reader argues that federal employees with high-level security clearances should be enrolled in the Clear program without paying for another background check.

Regarding “Registered Traveler takes off at Washington airports”: Why is it not possible to enroll federal employees who hold high-level security clearances into the Clear program without using a contractor and paying an additional fee?

We all undergo a periodic reinvestigation, and some of us also take a polygraph. I assure you that the investigation we are subjected to is much more detailed than the security check accomplished by some contractor.

It seems to me that those two airports in the D.C. area have a high volume of government workers on official travel who could easily be placed on the Clear list.
