Letter: Time to escape our 1940s mentality about telework

The future is now. My organization is struggling with space issues. Telework is the new capital of productivity for IT organizations. And yet we are trapped in the 1940s' mentality of build a bigger building for a bigger workforce.

The future is now. My organization is struggling with space issues. Telework is the new capital of productivity for IT organizations. And yet we are trapped in the 1940s' mentality of build a bigger building for a bigger workforce. We should spend less time managing and budgeting for space and more time managing productivity where ever it may occur. I propose a carbon credit be awarded to those organizations that can show a reduction in commuting demands placed on their employees. This credit could then be redeemed at federal small computer programs towards personal computing devices that further enable telecommuting. (Read the article here.)
