US-VISIT solicitation coming soon

The Homeland Security Department plans a Nov. 28 release of its presolicitation notice for a US-VISIT system to track foreign visitors.

Homeland Security Department officials gave vendors a date for the release of the presolicitation notice for the U.S. Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology (US-VISIT) program to track foreign visitors as they enter and exit the country.

In a brief notice, department officials said they intended to release the notice on or about Nov. 28 and post it online at www.dhs.gov/USVISIT.

A draft of the request for proposals has been circulating DHS but has not been disclosed, according to several government sources. It contains the details of what the government wants from vendors seeking the contract to build the system.

US-VISIT is a far-reaching system that is expected to be a major weapon in the DHS arsenal to keep potential terrorists out of the United States and to make sure foreign visitors do not overstay their visas.
