Along the IT job tracks
Following are responses to an FCW.com poll question that asked: "Do you favor dividing the Senior Executive Service into a corps of managers and a corps of technical experts?"
I feel that if they are receiving the amount of money that they do, then they should be required to supervise people and not just focus on a technical area.
I am one of the employees that was converted to a 2210 [information technology specialist], and I am not a happy camper. When they reclassified me, I was made a systems administrator. Prior to the conversion, I was a 0334 [computer specialist] and was classified in three of the five areas within that job series.
Now it looks like I have only one track instead of three.

A person's strength should not be diluted by unfamiliar tasks or responsibilities for which he or she has no background, be it technical or "management."
