Michelle O'Neill last month was named deputy assistant secretary for information
technology at the Commerce Department's International Trade Administration.
She was most recently chief of staff for David Aaron, who was undersecretary
for international trade until he moved to the private sector this year.

President Clinton last month nominated Army Lt. Gen. Edward Anderson III
for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as the
deputy commander in chief/chief of staff, U.S. Space Command and vice commander
in chief, North American Aerospace Defense Command.
Anderson is assigned as the director, Strategic Plans and Policy, J-5,
Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. If confirmed, Anderson will be the first Army
officer to be assigned as the deputy commander in chief of Spacecom. He
will succeed Vice Adm. Herbert Browne, who will retire Oct. 1.

Mildred Spiewak Dresselhaus was confirmed by the Senate last week to be
director of the Office of Science at the Energy Department. As director,
she manages an organization that is the third-largest federal sponsor of
basic research in the country. James Decker had been acting director of
the office since January.
