Office Anywhere transfer

The General Services Administration is working to transfer the Federal Technology Service's Office Anywhere mobile computing solutions program to the Federal Supply Service.

The program provides mobile hardware, software, communications and a network to agencies so employees can work from anywhere in the country. After the transition, which should occur within the month, FSS will establish a schedule to allow agencies to purchase and build their solutions from multiple vendors, said Wanda Smith, chief operating officer for the program.

$10M may go for training

A presidential task force is expected to request millions of dollars to help agencies fund training technologies and programs when it makes its recommendations this month. The task force may recommend a $10 million appropriation that would go into a training technology innovation fund, said E.B. Blanton, executive director of the Task Force for Federal Training Technology, which President Clinton established 18 months ago. Agencies would use the seed money to support research and development and start-up costs, he said.

Other likely recommendations that the task force will submit to the president include the need for a one-stop shop for federal agencies to promote and accelerate the use of technology-based training solutions. This would showcase for agencies the latest in training technologies, said Blanton, speaking late last month at the Training and Technology in Government 2000 conference in Washington, D.C.
