Look Who’s Gif-ing Now

A Connecticut senator is using animated gifs to urge action on student loans.

One sign of an adept politician is the ability to communicate differently with different audiences.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., has taken that adage to a new level with an animated gif-filled post on BuzzFeed urging his colleagues to take action to return student loan interest rates to 3.4 percent.

The post, titled "11 Reasons Why Congress Needs To Fix Student Loan Rates Now," may be the first time a senator has used gifs, the popular looping video and animation files, to make a political point. The post is aimed at a college-aged audience with gifs and still images from the Daily Show, the Colbert Report and the TV show community.

There are some hard data mixed in too, including the fact that student loans are the largest source of personal debt in the United States, after home mortgages.
