*** The House of Representatives voted to pass the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act by a vote of 335-78. That majority is large enough to override a threatened presidential veto. However, some House Republicans have indicated that they would not vote to override a veto despite support for the initial legislation.

*** The House Appropriations Committee released a bill extending the current continuing resolution funding the government through Dec. 18. The current funding bill expires on Dec. 11. The House and Senate are expected to approve an extension to give one week for negotiating a fiscal year 2021 funding package and a new pandemic relief bill.

*** Rep. John Katko (R-N.Y.) was selected to serve as the ranking member on the House Homeland Security Committee. He replaces Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) who will be the top Republican on the House Armed Services Committee in the 117th Congress.

*** The Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology Directorate unveiled an entrepreneurial university course program it hopes will help college students learn to work with the agency and its components to develop innovative solutions for the agency's top security issues. The "Hacking for Homeland Security" program is modeled on a similar program at the Defense Department.
