Quick Hits for July 17

New legislation was introduced on July 16 that would strip the administration of its ability to remove Huawei from the Commerce Department Entity List, which prohibits U.S. companies from doing business with the Chinese telecommunications firm.  The Defending America's 5G Future Act would also empower Congress to overrule any future waivers the executive branch might grant to do business with Huawei, and codify several other provisions of President Donald Trump's May executive order on supply chain security. 

The U.S. Court of Appeals on July 16 overturned an August 2018 district court ruling that had invalidated nine key provisions of the president’s workforce executive orders.  Those provisions would place new limits on collective bargaining and "official time" for federal employees.
