GOP budget passes House
The Republican budget proposal now goes to the Senate, where experts expect its defeat.
Republicans have won the first round of the budget battle. The GOP budget proposal passed the House of Representatives on March 29 by a vote of 228 to 191, largely along party lines according to the Washington Post.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), chairman of the Budget Committee, introduced the plan on March 20 and it passed out of the committee by a vote of 19-18 on March 22.
It would extend the existing federal salary freeze through 2015 and cut the federal workforce by 10 percent over the next three years, and would target hundreds of federal programs “that have outlived their usefulness” in an effort to streamline government agencies, the proposal said.
The bill now goes to the Senate, where it is likely to be defeated.
