Defense secretary taps new Spectrum chief
Gates also names new DISA computing and information technology executives.
Defense Secretary Robert Gates appointed Stuart Timerman to the Senior Executive Service on Tuesday and named him director of the Defense Spectrum Organization at the Defense Information Systems Agency.
The Defense Spectrum Organization develops spectrum plans for all military departments and agencies and will play a key role in working with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration and the Federal Communications Commission to allocate 100 MHz of Defense spectrum for commercial use.
Timerman replaces Paige Atkins as the Spectrum chief. She moved to a new position in June as head of DISA's Strategic Planning and Information Directorate. Timerman had served as Spectrum manager for the Army since 2004.
Gates also assigned Alan Lewis as DISA's vice director for computing services. Lewis previously served as principal director of DISA's Global Information Grid Enterprise Services Engineering. He replaces Henry Sienkiewicz, who took over as the DISA chief information officer in May, following the retirement of John Garing.
Nathan Maenle has been assigned as DISA's vice chief information officer, a move that expands his existing duties as the DISA Business Systems Executive, according to DISA spokeswoman Laura Williams.
