Teachers to get Internet training
President Clinton joined Education Secretary Richard Riley last week in announcing an initiative that will provide Internet training for all teachers in seven Mississippi Delta states.
The MCI WorldCom Foundation's MarcoPolo Internet Content for the Classroom program will provide the training. That program is a partnership among the foundation and six educational organizations including the National Geographic Society and the National Endowment for the Humanities/Council of the Great City Schools.
Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee are the states included in the initiative. The program features a teacher training kit that is delivered to trainees by certified instructors who also are teachers.
The curriculum is targeted toward teachers who must meet strict academic goals set by their school districts.
