Philadelphia Feels Sting of Y2K Bug
About 500 Philadelphia residents recently received notices for jury duty that would have been better suited for their ancestors. The requests asked them to serve in 1900, an error caused by a Year 2000 glitch in the city court computers.
About 500 Philadelphia residents recently received notices for jury duty that would have been better suited for their ancestors. The requests asked them to serve in 1900, an error caused by a Year 2000 glitch in the city court computers.
"Yes, after all the work that was done to avoid this, it happened," city Jury Commissioner Michael McAllister told the Philadelphia Daily News. "We've taken care of it. It shouldn't happen again."
Ironically, the city recently hosted a Y2K Community Conversation with John Koskinen, chairman of the President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion, and reported on its Year 2000 World Wide Web site (www.phila.gov/y2k/index.shtml) that all city services were ready for Jan. 1.
