Hilton Hotel Visitors: Watch Your Bank Accounts

Hospitality // United States

It is believed hackers have compromised payment networks in gift shops and restaurants at a large number of Hilton properties across the nation.

The breach does not appear to affect the guest reservation systems at the affected locations.

In August, Visa sent alerts to numerous financial institutions warning of a breach at a brick-and-mortar entity for several months this past spring and summer. The notice listed card numbers that were suspected of having been compromised.

Five banks report they have now determined the common point-of-purchase for those affected cards: Hilton. Each payment card had been used at Hilton properties, including the company’s flagship Hilton locations as well as Embassy Suites, Doubletree, Hampton Inn and Suites, and the upscale Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts.

In a written statement, a Hilton official said the company is investigating the breach claims.

Several sources in the financial industry told KrebsOnSecurity that the incident may date back to November 2014, and may still be ongoing.
