Data stolen on 12 million customers of leading South Korean telecom
Telecommunications // South Korea
A hacker penetrated the computers of KT Corp, one of the country’s biggest phone companies, using customized hacking software, and obtained bank details, home addresses and employment information for three-quarters of KT's 16 million registered users.
The filched data was hawked to another man, the owner of a telemarketing firm, who used the information to pose as a KT representative and sell cell phones.
“The two made 11.5 billion won (US $10.8 million) from the scheme, which dated back to February 2013,” CNN reports.
